In celebration of 62 years since the founding of Tallahassee Rifle & Pistol Club

May 30, 2026, Tallahassee Rifle & Pistol Club celebrated 62 years since the founding of the club. The day included range cleanup and maintenance, a bang up swap meet, and a fantastic lunch from Mission BBQ. We had a wonderful turnout with over 100 members and guests attending along with several members of the Leon County Sheriff’s Explorers Program. No Shoes Firearms and Collectible Arms set up booths and donated many door prizes. Jim Brainerd was the lucky raffle winner of the Ruger 10/22 rifle. The raffle raised $1325.00 for the youth program at TRPC. There was a lot of business done by members buying and selling items from tables and tailgates. Please give the entire Board of Directors a big at-a-boy for putting it all together and the heavens above for holding off the rain. Thanks to all those members attending.

Range Safety Officer Training available to TRPC members at a discounted rate.

I have been asked by TRPC Match Director John Burns to hold an NRA Range Safety Officer course for the Steel Challenge participants. To fit the Steel Challenge participants schedule I set up two classes. Monday March 16th, 2026, and Saturday March 21st, 2026. Creating an additional class opened addition seats so, I’m going to offer the RSO training to all TRPC members for a reduced fee.

The course goal is to develop NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

This is a 9-hr. class, after you toss in lunch and a couple of breaks it makes for a long day.

The cost will be $75. I normally charge $150 for this class, but the local North Florida Security Academy routinely offers it for $99, so I dropped my Tallahassee price to $100. I’m giving an additional $25 off for TRPC members. In addition to the course fees, the NRA has credentialing fee of $40 for new RSO/Instructors, and $20 for additional rating activation for those who are already an active NRA Instructor.

I will not contact you further about this RSO class unless you respond that you are interested. Class size is limited and registration will be closed upon reaching capacity.

Let me know if you’re interested by sending an email to president@trpc.net and I’ll send you the registration details. You can also call me if you have any questions.

RANGE H - NOW OPEN

NEW RANGE H BAYS ARE OPEN

Four new shooting bays have been constructed at TRPC and are now open to the membership for use. The bays (1,2,3, & 4) are collectively designated Range “H”, and are intended to provide members with a private shooting experience unlike our other long span ranges. The range will provide shooting up to distances of either 25 or 50 yards, and all are approximately 40’ wide.

Range rules are posted and identical to Ranges A1, A2 and B. The new range is intended for .22 LR rimfire and pistol caliber cartridges only. No centerfire rifle cartridge firearms or shotguns are permitted. All TRPC general range and safety rules apply to the use of Range H. Rules are posted at the clubhouse, front gate and on the website. Remember that all targets must be placed directly at the impact berm, shots must directly impact the impact berm and shots into side berms are not permitted.

Target frames have been placed on each range and may be used for paper or stick on targets. Also, rubber plates have been provided to imitate steel shooting. Members should bring their own white paint so hits can be recorded.

Getting there – Range H is accessed via the western side road adjacent to the A2 parking area. Look for the sign. Note that the road is narrow and cannot accommodate two vehicles the entire way. Please use courtesy and give way to vehicle exiting Range H. The Range H is directly north of ranges A1, A2, and B. There is plenty of parking. DO NOT attempt to access or exit Range H from Range E/F. This is entirely prohibited.

Look for some more amenities for the range in the near future.

TRPC has installed 6 clay target throwers and the 5 stand course is open.

TRPC has installed 6 clay target throwers with complete release system. Five Stand is a type of shotgun sport shooting similar to sporting clays, trap and skeet. There are five stations or stands and six to eighteen strategically placed clay target throwers (called traps). Shooters shoot in turn at various combinations of clay birds. Each station will have a menu card that lets the shooter know the sequence of clay birds (i.e. which trap the clay bird will be coming from). The shooter is presented with 5 targets at each station, first a single bird followed by two pairs. Pairs can be either “report pairs,” in which the second bird will be launched after the shooter fires at the first; or “true pairs” when both birds launch at the same time. After shooting at the 5 birds on the menu at that station, the shooter proceeds to the next stand, where they find a new menu of 5 targets. Typical five stand targets are a rabbit, chandelle, overhead, standard skeet high house and low house shots, teal (launched straight up into the air), trap (straight ahead from ground level), and an incoming bird.
